The Hands-On Experience
This immersive one-day training introduces participants to the fundamentals of wilderness survival. Through practical workshops and realistic scenarios, you’ll learn how to handle emergencies in nature, ensure your safety, and develop the right reflexes to survive.
Course Objectives
This introductory course covers the essential principles of survival :
- Understand the priorities and psychology of survival: stress management, decision-making, and adaptive behavior.
- Identify and manage the main challenges: injuries, isolation, fatigue, dehydration, hypothermia, and wildlife.
- Apply the four stages of a survival situation: Anticipation, Acceptance, Adaptation, and Assistance.
- Learn effective signaling and location techniques to facilitate rescue operations.
- Build an emergency shelter—with or without fire—and master reliable fire-starting methods under all conditions.
- Discover the basics of nutrition and hydration in emergency situations.
Teaching Approach
The training combines discussions, demonstrations, hands-on activities, and realistic simulations for a practical and engaging learning experience.
Content is tailored to the group’s needs, allowing each participant to practice techniques directly in the field.
Examples of Practical Exercises
- Start and maintain a fire under various conditions.
- Use a magnesium fire starter.
- Build a season-appropriate shelter.
- Implement effective emergency signaling.
- Explore the contents of an optimal survival kit.
What to Bring
- Water bottle, snacks, and lunch for the day.

- Waterproof notebook (e.g., Rite in the Rain — optional).
- Outdoor clothing suited to weather conditions (rain, sun, mud) — expect to get dirty!

Evaluation
Participant knowledge and skills are assessed throughout the course through continuous evaluation.
